A Refuge For Fellow Philadelphians

Serenity House, at 1209 W. Lehigh Avenue, once served as the parsonage of Cookman United Methodist Church, as well as a home for homeless youth and ex-offenders transitioning back into the neighborhood.Though Cookman UMC was closed, Arch Street obtained the parsonage to maintain an ongoing presence of “serenity” on the corner of 12th and Lehigh to offer hope for the gathering of a new community. Serenity House Community Center welcomes everyone regardless of age, racial or ethnic background, gender, sexual orientation or gender identity, economic or marital status, or physical or mental ability.

Mission:

Serenity House is a welcoming, neighborhood-centered space that promotes leadership development, spiritual growth, and community organizing. Through our work in Serenity House Community Center and Serenity House Intentional Community we live and grow with the North Philadelphia neighborhood. Intentional community residents and neighbors build grace-filled relationships and share experiences to elevate a radical vision of resiliency, healing, and justice in our community and beyond.
